Water engineering specialist Bongani Dladla says South Africa will have to catch up technologically if it is to avoid a water crisis in future.
Dladla, an associate director at Royal HaskoningDHV engineering and project management consultancy, said given South Africa’s historic context, government has come a long way in increasing access to potable water.
“As a new country, there were many priorities around the RDP programme, so [government] had to expand access as much as possible, but with limited resources of building new infrastructure. I think that is the genesis of some of the problems we are facing.
