As the 2021 New Zealand Comedy Festival comes to an end, the critics have chosen the three funniest acts out of the more than 40 performers.
David Correos, Two Hearts and Eli Matthewson have been announced as finalists for the 2021 Fred Award.
Named after John Clarkes character, Fred Dagg, the Fred is one of the biggest awards in New Zealand comedy. The winner would be announced on Sunday night, at the Last Laughs gala in Auckland.
David Correos is nominated for this year’s Fred Dagg award.
Correos was nominated for his set, David Correos is David Postoffice. He won the Billy T Award in 2016, and his latest performance promised anything from eating cat food to getting naked.

Correos is known for causing a ruckus-showcasing a variety of comedy styles from straight stand up, to the very extremes of physical comedy, the festival said.
Pop-comedy duo Laura Daniel and Joseph Moore present a show titled Two Hearts.
Two Hearts, the name of Laura Daniel and Joseph Moores musical comedy duo, picked up the nomination after a return to the festival. This year, the couple brought together their musical and comedic talents to present the show We’re Pregnant and The Baby is Music.
Both Daniel and Moore have been nominated individually for the Billy T Award, and together as Two Hearts in 2018.
Matthewson, nominated for his show Daddy Short Legs, has had two Billy T nominations and one for the Fred Award.
Eli Matthewson is nominated, for a second time, for the Fred.
At the Last Laughs show on Sunday night, the Billy T Award winner would also be announced. The award recognised the best breakthrough comedian of the year.
The nominees for 2021 included Brynley Stent, James Mustapic, Josh Davies and Lana Walters.
Winners of the Fred Award received $2000, and a free lunch.
