Talks on the holding of the Leaving Certificate this year will continue today between the Department of Education and officials of the Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland.
The ASTI pulled out of talks last week over concerns that calculated grades would be the dominant option offered to students.
It returned to the negotiating table after receiving assurances it said it had received from Minister for Education Norma Foley.
However, Government sources said no promises were made to unions, and that the only place concerns could be addressed was within the confidential talks process.
Minister Foley has said she is committed to “providing clarity and certainty to students at the earliest possible time”.
