Kevin Clark has died. He was 32 years old.
The star was cycling in the early hours of Wednesday morning when he was hit by a car at a notoriously dangerous intersection on the Northwest Side in Chicago. Paramedics found him and rushed him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, reports E! News.
The actor was best known for playing drummer Freddy Jones in the film School of Rock, but went on to become a musician starting a band of his own, Third Estate. Though the band split, he’d since started a new band. Jessie Bess and the Intentions performed live for the first time over the weekend.
“He’s just a raw talent. He’s got a heart of gold,” his mom, Allison Clark, told Chicago Sun Times, while costars Jack Black and Miranda Cosgrove, who’ve kept in touch over the years, have also paid tribute to their bandmate.
“Devastating news. Kevin is gone. Way too soon. Beautiful soul. So many great memories. Heartbroken. Sending love to his family and the whole School of Rock community,” Jack Black wrote.
“Stunned and saddened by this news today,” Miranda Cosgrove said. “The world lost an amazing soul.”
