Priti Patel is unlikely to extend the contract of Britains most senior police officer amid the continuing fallout over the policing of the vigil for Sarah Everard, senior government sources have said.
Dame Cressida Dick, commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, is expected to stand down when her contract expires in April next year after clashes with the home secretary and Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London.
Patel and Khan have been openly critical of the policing at the vigil in Clapham Common, south London, last weekend, where women were pinned down and arrested by officers.
