Northern Territory Police have arrested a 49-year-old man in relation to the death of a 16-year-old boy at Yirrkala in East Arnhem Land on Wednesday.
At the time. police said the teenager died after being stabbed during a disturbance involving up to 100 people in the remote community, about 20 kilometres south of Nhulunbuy.
Three men, aged 18, 40 and 45, were injured and taken to Royal Darwin Hospital.
One of the men has since been released while the other two are in a stable condition.
In a statement, NT Police said the 49-year-old man was arrested on Friday afternoon after “handing himself in”.
“The man has been transported to Darwin where he will be interviewed by Major Crime detectives,” the statement said.
“A number of events scheduled in the East Arnhem region this weekend, including the football fixture, have been cancelled by community out of respect to family.”
